Meet the Team
Chief Executive Officer
Steve Griffin
Steven Griffin, Founder and CEO of Steve Protective Services (SPS), a native Chicagoan, grew up in a single-matriarch-led home in the West Englewood neighborhood. His upbringing in an environment marked by pervasive crime fueled his determination to address the factors that undergird safety issues. Steven firmly believes that everyone should have access to feelings of safety and reduced stress. This conviction led him to enter the security industry and birthed the creation of SPS.
With over two decades of executive experience in the security sector, Mr. Griffin brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role as Founder and CEO. With an educational background in Public Safety, he also holds myriad certifications. Steven is an NRA certified instructor, a certified instructor for TASER X26P and TASER 7 Conducted Energy Weapons (CEW). He has also completed the Defensive Pistol and Tactical Rifle Training program under the United States Fugitive Enforcement Bureau, showcasing his commitment to responsible firearm use and proficiency in the judicious and effective deployment of non-lethal force. Mr. Griffin also holds a fingerprint vendor license.

Ponda Barnes
Dr. Ponda Barnes, a distinguished public health professional and entrepreneur, has two decades of unwavering commitment to the non-profit arena. With a proven track record in fundraising, development, grant composition, executive management, and adept program and project leadership, she brings a wealth of expertise garnered from diverse institutions including academic medical centers, grant-making entities, and a hospital. Throughout her illustrious journey, Dr. Barnes has held pivotal leadership roles such as Vice President of Grants, interim CEO, Director, and Senior Manager, cementing her reputation as a visionary leader in her field. Additionally, Dr. Barnes serves on the boards of the Blowitz Ridgeway Foundation and the Spirited Pearls Foundation.
